Open BTS and the Burning Man

That’s a very interesting news. The Burning Man festival is an yearly big event that take place at Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada, USA.

It’s worldwide known for its pretty hard surviving conditions, for its libertarian and autarchic approach, and for its marvelous and psychedelic technologic art installations. Thanks to tech-art, the Burning Man has become through the years a meeting point for various kinds of fabbers, hardware artists and other strange people that makes strange things with the material world.

Julie Borth at Networkworld has just wrote a post about Open BTS, a new cell phone technology that has been tested at the Burning Man in the last three years.

Open BTS can be very disruptive for three main reasons: it’s extremely cheap; it’s solar or wind powered; it’s Linux/VoIP based (so, it’s open source).
