MakerBot Industries is a company founded in 2009 by Bre Pettis, Adam Mayer, and Zach “Hoeken” Smith producing various machines and tools related to 3d printing and rapid prototyping, like the famous CupCake CNC. All MakerBot products are open source and explicitly hackable. And, as you can see from the pictures, they have a great design!
In the last days, they have released two new tools that are going to change practices and perceptions of desktop manufacturing.
The first one is the MakerBot Automated Build Platform, that allows you to chain produce multiple pieces without manual intervention. In other words, it transforms your desktop in a small automated factory. Here is a video:
The second one is the MakerBot Cyclops 3D Scanner Kit, that is exactly what the name says: a 3D Scanner! And it costs only 50$!
