On Openwear blog, a reflection about the meaning of quality in DIY design.
During the last year and a half I had the chance to be involved in countless formal and informal meetings, seminars, and discussions about digital fabrication and peer-to-peer design and production with designers, crafters, researchers, activists, architects and amateurs.
What I have noticed is that there is a great number of misunderstandings about a very basic question:
“why is all that so interesting?”
Far from being explicit, the reasons of the involvements of individuals, groups and institutions in open/p2p/co-design are heavily (and sometimes obscurely) rooted in their personal and professional backgrounds.
